The partnership comes as Fairfield is trying to raise its image and likeness in the Fairfield area after a deluge of criticisms following the handling of the 2023 SantaCon party.
Fairfield University announced on National Coffee Day the launch of a new branded coffee in partnership with Silvermine Coffee Roasters, a Norwalk coffee roasting company. The new blend, dubbed “Red Sea Coffee,” will be served at all university events, the university said in a press release.
According to the university, the new collaboration is a reflection of the university’s ongoing commitment to fostering partnerships with small, community-focused businesses.
“This partnership not only provides our campus with exceptional coffee but also reinforces Fairfield University’s dedication to supporting local businesses and cultivating sustainable relationships within our community,” said Jennifer Anderson, Fairfield’s vice president of Marketing and Communication, in a statement.
The name of this new coffee blend celebrates the student fan section that goes by the same name.
Silvermine Coffee Roasters has rapidly gained popularity in Connecticut for its artisan coffee and its commitment to providing responsibly sourced coffee since opening in September 2023. Its owner, Norwalk native and Fairfield Prep alumn Thomas Morsanutto, shared his excitement and honor to “share my passion with the next generation of students.”
Fairfield has already started promoting the new blend. In an Instagram post with Silvermine Coffee, the university shared, “Our Stags love coffee so much, we made our own.” It was not immediately clear if the Red Sea blend is being used on campus.
On its website, Silverman says that all Red Sea orders will start shipping on Oct. 7. The 12 oz blend, which originates from Brazil, Costa Rica and Guatemala, is on sale for $18.99 – three dollars more than their most expensive 12 oz offering.
The university added that the sponsorship agency Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment facilitated their collaboration with Silvermine Coffee. According to the agency’s website, they also collaborate with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, of which Fairfield is a member.
